Million Dollar Ball – First Scans

These are the first tests of the scanning for the Million Dollar Ball Project I’m doing.  You can click on an image for the life-size version if you are so inclined.

I’m requiring the following be done to a bill if it is going to be included in the Ball:

(1) “THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE” must be crossed out.  My idea here is that we’re removing the bill from circulation, it is no longer legal tender, it is a $1 piece of fine art paper.

(2) “MillionDollarBall.org” must be written on the back in the lower left corner.  It can be spaced out as I’ve written it on this first one.

(3) Nothing else must be written on the back in the bottom field unless it is signed.  There is no requirement that you have to sign your own name, but I want that spot to be reserved for signatures.

I’m leaning towards being a hard-ass about people doing these steps themselves because I don’t think I or someone volunteering for the project should do it — the writing and pen won’t match.  It would break the artsy value here.

Adornment

The donor is invited to decorate the bill as a piece of art.

Only Ink or Pencil may be used.   Bills will not be accepted with paint, masking tape, or anything glued to the bill.  The art should fit on the bill and work with the bill.  I don’t want people covering up a bunch of space and then drawing like it was just a regular piece of paper, like someone painting over a used canvas.

Legality

Writing on the bill doesn’t seem to break the law according to my reading of it and some opinions I’ve read.  This is only because writing on the bill is not specifically outlawed as “defacing” it as is gluing paper to it.

The scans are in color, but they’re only at 100dpi which isn’t a high enough resolution to reproduce the bill by printing in any realistic fashion.
