Hey, man, in 1999, you looked at me like I was insane when I said that I thought people would pay for cards with pictures and descriptions of characters they could play in a chat room. That way they could pretend they were someone else without actually coming up with all the details, and the cards would reserve that character, making it special. The only problem, I said, was coming with with enough combinations of attributes to make money while keeping it interesting.
Ok, I was mostly insane, [I said I knew people would love it] but I wasn’t wrong about people’s motivations. This isn’t a card and I don’t think people play, but it turns out there’s a whole role-playing culture out there that does exactly what I described.
I wasn’t insane about this and I’m beginning think I’ve always been right about people. You call it intuition, educated guessing, whatever, I call it being in touch with the future.
