There was an “Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon” (UAP) hovering over a United Airlines gate at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on November 7th, 2006. The aviation guys do not refer to these things as UFO’s, they’re UAP’s.
Lots of United Airlines people saw it, including pilots.
There are no pictures.
There’s an organization called the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena, http://www.narcap.org/. These people are not UFO hunters.
From their website:
NARCAP is interested in promoting the issue of aviation safety and unidentified aerial phenomena in a measured and responsible fashion. It is our opinion that these incidents are rare but they do deserve attention. Aviation safety concerns of a similar nature include wind shear and other events with a low frequency of occurrence.
NARCAP has no position regarding what UAP may represent though there is some evidence to suggest that UAP represent a category of phenomena that has not been adequately investigated by science. We do share a position of solidarity with other official international groups studying anomalous aerial phenomena and aviation related matters (see:International Organizations and Case Files). Better reporting regimes and an active attempt to counter under-reporting bias will provide enough data to demonstrate a further need for analysis of UAP reports which affect aviation safety.
Additionally, our staff and our advisory board include aeronautics and aviation experts of high caliber like current and former NASA research scientists and aviation safety program administrators including the current Chief of the Aviation Safety Program Office at Ames Research Center.
Their Chief Scientist, Dr. Haines, and eight other guys, prepared this report:
National Aviation Reporting Center — 155 page report — July 2007
Click here for page 35 of the report, where there are transcripts of telephone conversations between “Sue” working at the United ramp tower and “Dave” and “Dwight” FAA Area Supervisors working in the FAA control tower.
The first phone call from Sue is to Dave. She says someone said they saw something. Dave is joking about it. Some woman in the FAA tower is laughing in the background. They blow her off.
The second phone call, a few minutes later, is to Dwight. Sue said Dave thought she was high or drunk (laughing), but she’s not.
SHE SAID A GUY GOT A PICTURE OF IT.
Suddenly, Dwight is much more serious.
No picture ever turned up.
